Lynsey and Benny Kill them at Cavan
Over the winter Benny qualified for the NIWHA Festival Working Hunter Championships 2009 held at Cavan over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Saturday morning brought the 153 cms.Novice Championship with some interesting fences, including one flanked by two real life size pigs, some ponies reactions were predictable “we aren’t going there”. Only two jumped clear including “cool dude” Benny, they joined eight other qualifiers from the other classes for the big formal dressed evening presentation under the spot lights for the final Championship placings. All dressed up and sparkling Benny and Lynsey appeared through the curtains into the spot light to the applause of the crowd as their names were announced. What an atmosphere, the tension was high but they coped and after an eventful gallop they were lined up. Lynsey and Benny were not placed, but just the experience of such a big occasion was priceless.
Sunday morning at 8 00 am brought the 153 cms. Open Championship class, a field of 30 ponies contested the class. There were lots of interesting fences, once again the pigs sorted out the faint hearted as did a long one stride double, all at 1metre plus. Benny was second to go, the combination of Lynsey's skill and Benny's scope got them round clear, and so to bed for him until we found out if they were qualified for the evening presentation. Ten ponies did qualify and an estimated jumping time of 10 00pm! Formal dress was again the order of the evening so again all dressed up and even more sparkling, and to the tune of "Killer" booming out of the PA system, they entered the arena to the cheers of their supporters as their names were announced. The tension was at fever pitch, this was the big one. The previous nights experience helped and Benny soon settled into his rhythm and coped well under the lights and the noise of an excited crowd. All ten showed their paces and were lined up for the placings to be announced in reverse order, 10th, 9th, ……6th a top pony 5th another top pony and still no Lynsey, dads nerves were shot then the announcement came 4th.place Lynsey Adams with Colours "R" Us FANTASTIC.What a great result, well done Lynsey.
Thank you mummy for letting us go by staying home to look after an expectant brood mare.
Really all this would not be possible without the team of Ryan Hooper and Julie Henderson not to mention Lynsey's sheer hard work her willingness to listen and learn.
